Project Misik

Using the power of interactive musical and movement experiences to create yards:

creating outdoorsafe spaces, where we gather, build community, and celebrate black and brown neighbors — us!

Project Misik started in Mirebalais, Haiti in Spring 2010. We gathered instruments, through donations & Craigslist, and brought them to play in jam sessions and workshops with fellow musicians, students, and community members at the Gawou Ginou King Foundation’s C-CLAK Cultural Centre & School. This partnership continues today!

Returning to Boston, we began to use the model of collective healing through Project Misik group lessons in classrooms and community centers throughout the New England area.

In 2023, Project Misik continues to produce community-based events we began in Boston, Cambridge, Somerville, Malden, & Tulsa.

Project Misik is led by Kera Washington, features members of Zili Misik, and strives to bring visibility to, and love for, the work of other BIPOC artists in the area — including the performing & visual arts.
